How do I begin the process of registering DOI names?

To register DOI names in co-operation with the TIB, an institution submits an application to the TIB to become a data centre. A data centre is responsible for storing the contents it registers with the TIB. The centre is also responsible for quality assurance, maintenance and the generation of metadata. DOI registration can easily be embedded in the data centre’s workflow. The TIB saves the metadata and enables all registered contents to be searched via a database.

The rights and duties of a data centre are listed in this agreement.
With regard to cost, a data centre is required to pay an annual membership fee of EUR 150. Details can be found in the cost agreement.

The TIB is working with several partners who offer long-term archival storage for those data centres who can’t provide it themselves. These partners work mostly in the earth- and environmental-sciences, but other technical disciplines are welcome, too.
