Conference Proceedings
What are conference reports?
The term "conference reports" primarily refers to publications of lectures, which are published by the conference organisers or scientific associations themselves, and which have a relatively small print run.
Conference publications are available either before the conference (as a preprint), or after the conference in a summary format (abstracts) or as a full report (proceedings). Increasingly, these publications are also being published in an electronic format (as a CD-ROM or disk) or made available on the Internet.
What conference reports are included in the TIB's holdings?
Since the early 1970th the TIB is attempting to build up the most comprehensive possible collection of domestic and foreign conference reports from the fields of engineering and natural sciences. Particular consideration has been paid to suggestions for acquisitions and orders submitted by library users. As well as the hard-to-obtain "grey" conference reports, which form the focal point of the TIB collection, our holdings also include conference publications, which are available in bookshops. Our catalogues also provide access to a large number of conference reports, which have been published in specialist journals subscribed to by the TIB.
In addition to print publications, the TIB/UB also provides a link to the following conference databases, for the Hannover University campus, via its homepage:
The IEEE Xplore database of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc.
The ACM Portal of the Association for Computing Machinery.
How do I get hold of the reports I want?
All the conference report holdings are integrated in GetInfo (document delivery service), which allow searches to be performed and orders to be placed online. It is not possible to borrow full conference reports. Nevertheless, the individual contributions to the report can be ordered as copies, or, alternatively, you can view the publications at the library. As TIB customer, you are entitled to request a copy of the contents directory of the required volume, at no charge (where applicable). Also, we started to include the table of contents of conference reports in GetInfo electronically. This new service will be expanded by and by. You may additionally inform yourself about the contents of conference reports via the database "BL Conference Proceedings", which we also offer in GetInfo.
Should a conference report from the fields of engineering or natural sciences not be present in our catalogue, we will endeavour to acquire it.
