The German Library Statistics

Within the scope of its participation in the German library statistics, the German National Library of Science and Technology and University Library Hannover (TIB/UB) uses a method for counting the visitors to its internet site. When the homepage and/or catalogue are accessed, a library and page identifier, the time of access and the signature of the computer accessing the sites is stored. The signature is formed by a one-way function of the IP address, browser recognition and proxy information. The collection, storage and evaluation of this data take place in a pseudonymous form, i.e. the signature is not assignable to a particular person. The IP address in particular is not stored. The pseudonymous individual data are summed up a maximum of 24 hours later and thus made anonymous.

The stored data are statistically evaluated in order to help us further develop and design our pages appropriately. The data are only used for this purpose and are deleted after the evaluation.

The technical and organisational implementation of this process is carried out by the Hochschule der Medien Stuttgart (Stuttgart Media University - HdM) which has developed the process in accordance with the requirements of both the data protection laws and the Telemediengesetzes (German Telemedia Act - TMG) statutory regulations by which it is legally bound.

You do have the opportunity to opt out of the collection, processing and use of the aforementioned data for its named purpose. In order to do so, please click on the following external link:
